Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 offers an exciting assortment of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha High-Low.
