Omaha Hi-Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha hi-low begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complex initially, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players trying for the high, and a few battling for the low.
