Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in nearly all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, after a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi low offers an overwhelming assortment of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
