Omaha Hi/Low: Fundamental Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players can get confused. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complex at first, after a few hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting collection of betting possibilities and seeing that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
