Omaha Hi/Low: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in almost all poker games.
A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an exciting assortment of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several players battling for the high, and several trying for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
